Dancing Queen Rocks The JUNO's

The 38th anniversary of the JUNO Awards aired this past Sunday!  The annual, Canadian music awards show was held in Vancouver this year and a friend of ours, So You Think You Can Dance Canada Top 20 finalist Arassay Reyes attended the event in this strapless Betsey Johnson number!  The shape is flattering on her and the belt detail around the waste is super cute!  Arassay looked stunning, while rocking this all-white look, which is modern and chic, but also a prominent trend this season.  A+ for a fabulous red carpet ensemble!

If you haven't seen this, watch it now.  This sad excuse for a make-up commercial is surely not the best way for Lindsay Lohan to save her tired career.  Though, girlfriend does looks pretty good in the video!

The World's Hottest Supermodel

(Photos from May 2009's Vanity Fair cover story on Gisele Bündchen)

Gisele will be gracing us again next month on the cover of Vanity Fair!  She looks absolutely stunning and even poses nude for the magazine.  She talks more about her marriage with football star Tom Brady, also going into detail about finding out about Tom Brady's ex-girlfriend having been pregnant with his child.  The supermodel says “I want him to have a great relationship with his mom, because that’s important, but I love him the same way as if he were mine. I already feel like he’s my son, from the first day.”

Spring Obsessions: Ethnic Patterned Scarves

So it's been a while since our last Spring Obsessions post, but the weather is getting warmer and all we can think about is the next purchase to amp last year's spring/summer wardrobe!  If you haven't heard, African, ethnic-inspired looks are all the rage this season.  Rich colors and exotic patterns can turn a classic look and turn it into jungle safari ready.  Scarves offer an easy way to spice up even the plainest of t-shirts.  The versatility of the scarf also makes it easy to accessorize in a variety of ways.  For example, as shown above, you can wrap a scarf or bandana around the head, over the hair and instantly achieve an ethnic-inspired style.

We're also big fans of fashion that's hip AND affordable, especially in this economic climate!  All of the scarves in the above photo motif are available at Urban Outfitters and Forever 21.  All of these scarves are also made from light, sheer, breathable fabrics, which will allow you to maintain your style even when the weather really starts to heat up.  Make sure to check out the stores' websites for some great online steals!

Dumpy Frumpy

Katie Holmes is looking just so peppy and fresh….joking! Are those leggings masquerading as sweat pants? Nothing makes you look frumpier then scrunchy sweat pants/tights. They don’t do anyone any favors they just make you look worse. I am also very overr the “Amy Winehouse” ballet flats. They are just so boring. The sweatshirt I don’t mind but it would need a little tweaking.

Katie Holmes do you own a hair brush? I don’t understand celeberties they don’t seem to like use a brush.
Its really not that hard!

We all have our bad days but jeez try a little harder!

New Music: BoA

I'm usually not the biggest fan of J-Pop/K-pop (whatever you want to call it), but this young Korean starlet has done something different by breaking into the American market (with an English album)!  Here's a preview of her hit single "I Did It For Love" ft. Sean Garrett (above).  Her name is Boa Kwon and and she goes by BoA on stage, which stands for Beat of Angel.  Her new album titled BoA is upbeat, catchy and just make you want to get up and dance!  I hope we'll get to hear some of her songs in the clubs this summer!

For more info visit her website, by clicking here.

The Morning After

Well social peeps I think we have all partied a little too hard one time or another. Here are some remedies for a hang over.

To keep the hang overs away:

Drink water: before going to bed drink 2-3 large glasses

When you have one:

Go walking: go for a long walk to get rid of all the toxins
Take a painkiller: Advil will help you in the short term
Eat something: You might feel like you can’t keep it down but the best thing you can do is eat.

*please note this was not writen by a doctor*

Rag & Penfield

Guys check this out!  Girls, pay attention for a great potential gift!  Rag & Bone is doing a collaboration with the Massachusetts outdoor brand Penfield.  The 2 brands are introducing a down jacket that comes in black and grey, as shown above.  It also has removable sleeves, which means you can wear it across seasons and switch up your look!  In my opinion, the black is more chic.  The jacket comes in at $795.  It's a hefty price, but it's an investment that gets you fashion, function and durability (against the elements and trends) in one.  rag-bone.com

TITF: Took It Too Far

Really?  REALLY?!  What has the world come too...  You may wonder what the big deal about this picture is, but look again my friends.  These are denim printed leggings!  There is a limit to everything, and Rock & Republic crossed the line with these in their Spring 09 collection.  What do you think?  Try to keep your breakfast down.

New Ink

Rihanna has been keeping it low key lately after the whole Chris Brown fiasco and I think rightfully so. Some pictures of her have surfaced after she got a new tattoo. Originally she was going to go with the tattoos on her arms/shoulders but thought twice on that one.

Now THAT is a Throne

Jemal Wright has taken the bathroom to a whole new level. This is pretty much the most ballin’ bathroom stuff ever. I don’t know where any of this stuff would fit but my gosh it is fun to look at.

The photo above has 50,000 stones and will cost you a pretty penny too at about $75,000.

Here are some other crazy bathroom items from Jemal Wright

A Roach Vs. A Butterfly

So if you haven't seen it yet, Papa Roach released a new album yesterday (March 24th).  What is it called?  Metamorphosis.  Interesting choice of name, considering musically polar opposite pop starlet Hilary Duff used the same name for her 2003 album.  Way to recycle Hil's album title.  Someone at Interscope Records didn't do their homework.  Great PR for an alternative, metal band to be copying a teen pop-star.

Oh and the original album title was Days of War, Nights of Love... should have let THAT one sit in the cocoon a little longer!

Meh

Well I don’t have too much to say about this picture of Solange Knowles. I am in the make up industry and I don’t love the orange stripe but I guess she is trying to do something new? But not really? Solange's skirt and shirt I don’t hate either. Maybe it’s the hipster in me or the sunny weather has made me exceptionally nice. Hate if you want but I really don’t mind this. Not for ever day but heck you only live once. I do how ever greatly dislike her hair braid band thing. Its too bulky maybe if it was smaller. Right now it reminds me of a towel or braided sponge. My all over opion on this outfit is just blah.

Cheap Cheap Cheap

I am sure you have all heard me talk about statement shoes before…many times… but I really just can’t get enough of fun shoes. In my travels I have come across these rockin’ shoes for a steal of a deal. Ladies don’t ever say you can’t be a diva on a dime.

Trend Report: Sail The 7 Seas

Black and white will get you through spring, but as the days get longer you may want to add some more color to your wardrobe!  But remember to keep with a limited color palette to maintain your style and class.

Like many springs before, designers are playing on the nautical inspiration.  D&G took it quite literal (men's & women's looks above), while other American designers gave and updated neo-nautical, Americana twist for a fresh appeal.  Even more mainstream brands like Gap are pumping out looks that allude to the long days of summer, out on the yacht.

Remember: it's all about the red, white and blue.  Don't be afraid to throw in a bit of black here and there to give a more urban vibe to your look too.  And if you've found your groove with the black and white look, you can still get a nautical feel without adding color.  Simple stripes can give a more sea-bound look, but also consider a white crocheted belt, such as in the Gap look below, or a an iconic nautical applique on a top or accessory, as featured in the D&G looks.

Pucker Up

Ladies I know we all are bad for this. We have make up from god knows when hanging around out in our make up bags and drawers. Make up does indeed go bad but who can really remember that date they purchased that “pink poodle” lip glass anyways?

Cargo has solved the problem. They have invented a lip gloss with an indicator slip in the lid. When you get your lip gloss you insert a little strip into the lid and when the it goes completely pink then you are in need of some new gloss. Why not take the guess work out?

Cargo gloss is not is now paraben free so what more could you ask for.

Golf Claps

Well I do enjoy this dress on Geri Halliwell. I would like it more if maybe it was twisted a little to the right and some kind of support was present but I do really like it. The colour works really nicely with Geris skin tones and the fabric works well with this dress.

I am most impressed with the makeup it is flawless and gorgeous. It is not over done and just adds enough glam. The earrings as well just are the right amount of glitter. A round of Golf claps Geri Halliwell well done.

Pants Maybe?

Lindsay Lohan my dear I know you are hard up for cash right but seriously get some pants! Your tights are not even leggings! I can see through them! A t shirt is not a dress and tights are not pants. I know its hard to understand but please try and learn.

Pump It Up

Basic cloths are essential in your closet but how do you spice them up? Over this week I will be touching on items that are not pricey but will add a little kick to your look.

Hair pieces are a chic way to jazz it up. These are not hairclips from your child hood though. Look for something that works with the shape of your head. Be aware of what you are doing that evening and make sure you are not going to regret your choice.

The examples above show hair pieces that are attached to headbands and actual clips. Headbands are a tired and true way of keeping your look stuck on your head. I personally also like the clip because it can be placed anywhere around your head.

Britney Returns In High Style

Britney Spears opens her 'Circus' tour tonight!  The pop princess is doing it in style too, dressed in costumes designed by Dean and Dan Caten of DSquared.  You've got to hand it to the Canadian twins, who've also dressed other pop stars on tour, including Madonna.  Above is a sketch and snapshot of Brit-Brit's opening look!

Anybody Down for a Baked Potato?

Reese Witherspoon this is a horrible. It looks like you are wearing some foil and cellophane as a dress. Yes this might be a lot more “fun” that was Reese normally wears but it is still straight up ugly. Good try but you miss the boat.

Can We Get This Woman Some Depends Please?

Good jesus girl! Tyra what are you doing? Who purposely buys pants that make them look like they have peed their pants! These pants are actually a whole bunch on no. The tight bottom parts have just made your legs look huge! The pockets are just not flattering. The shirts sleeves remind of some strange finned squid. This outfit is just horrible. Tyra seriously I scratch my head in confusion.

Blame it on the Economy

Lauren Conrad clothing line is on "hold" due to the economy. Maybe the line didn’t work because for one thing it is over price and boring. That’s a pretty big factor. Plus most people, unless you watch the Hills, don’t really care or even know who Lauren is. Learn your lesson Lauren when designing a line it would be a good idea to think of something new and not just regurgitate other people’s designs.
Page six Reports

"Some showrooms got a message from her camp saying, "In light of the economic
climate, Lauren has decided to completely rethink her line." As a result,
shipment of the last spring and summer delivery has been canceled, the memo
said. Page Six previously reported that the line wasn't moving in stores like
Kitson and Bloomingdale's. "Lauren is going to revamp her line and design with
more high-end fabrics . . . things she couldn't do the first time around," a
source close to Conrad said. Her rep told us, "With everything going on in the
economy and in her life, she wants to rework her line and offerings. She will
make announcements soon."
Well Lauren Conrad I think your 15 minutes of fame are up.

Bumpin' and Grindin' that Pole

Now this picture is from last week when our blog was in the fritz but I could not go with out talking about it. New career choice? Way to make daddy proud. Brooke Hogan "preformed" at the Calle Ocho festival in Miami. You know you can’t sing when you have to poll dance to get people to watch you. Oh Brooke move on honey your music blows.

Gotta get that Cleavage

Megan Fox has been on here before. She is defiantly gorgeous but what the heck is with that top. It looks like a breast harness with some pink fabric around the bottom just for fun? It kind of reminds me of a tenser bandage with suspender straps. I am not a fan of overly distressed jeans either. Miss Fox you are pretty but your outfit is pretty dang ugly.

Recessionista

Who says you can’t look fab on a budget? There is nothing wrong with a little bargain hunting. It feels great paying $25 dollars a dress and someone asking you what designer you are wearing.

A tip when looking for a bargain is make sure the item looks rich. Fabrics and colours make all the difference. If an item under $50 it doesn’t mean it has to look that way.

Here are some fabulous spring dresses for under $50.

This cute Lemon Drop Dress is perfect for spring and will take you right into the summer. Why not have a little fun with colour and pattern

$49.99 Modcloth

The great thing about a solid dress is you can dress it up or down. This yellow dress is a fantastic find and will be a great basic in your closet for spring summer.

$16.90 Forever21

Everyone needs a maxi dress. They are perfect for a stroll on the beach or lunch out with the ladies.

$29.50 Forever21

Jean dresses are definitely in this spring. They look great on there own or with a cardigan for those cool nights.

Head to toe for under $300

So if you read the spring trend report you'll know that black and white is all the rage this season!  A limited color palette is a super easy way to look stylish, even in jeans and sneakers...

The entire outfit shown above comes in at $292.  Not too bad considering it's from head to toe!  This horizontal stripe cardigan is great for layering over a t-shirt or button down in the spring, when the weather isn't cold anymore, but not super hot yet.  Black jeans are 'in' right now and look flattering on everyone, as long as they aren't too tight or too loose.  You want a proper fitting pair.  Simple, classic sneakers are a great investment, because you can still wear them when color comes back for summer!  Lastly, a patterned scarf finishes off the otherwise simple color palette, while adding some texture.

Cardigan by Diesel - $140
BDG v-neck tee (available at Urban Outfitters) - $14
BDG Overdyed jean (available at Urban Outfitters) - $49
Jack Purcell distressed sneakers (available at J. Crew) - $65
Urban Outfitters shadow stripe scarf - $24
