Beauty Biz: YSL Singulier Mascara

YSL has come out with a truly amazing new mascara called Singulier. It will give you dramatic, larger-than-life lashes without looking clumpy or caked on. It does EVERYTHING, adds volume, lengthens and gives you tremendous curl.

Applied like basic mascara, it's easy to use and with one or two sweeps through those lashes you have instant drama. Part of its secret is in the brush. It’s made with two different fibers in a unique swirl pattern so it can reach each individual lash while acting like an eyelash curler. Unlike cheaper mascara Singulier has plant extracts that help promote healthy eyelashes so it won’t dry your lashes or make them brittle. It has also been ophthalmologically tested and is suitable for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers making it perfect for just about everyone.

Coming in at $30(US) it’s a little pricey but is well worth the extra dollars. Singulier really out shines anything on the market. It has been sold out at many counters so if you can get your hands on it give it a whirl, you will not be disappointed.

Can be found at Holt Renfrew and Bergdorf Goodman

Natasha Poly On Russian Vogue

It seems like celebrities have taken over the covers of every fashion magazine, so it's such a breath of fresh air to see a high fashion model on a cover. Natasha Poly is that rarity on Russian Vogue's January 2010 cover. What a great way to start the year!

The Real Situation On The Jersey Shore

If you haven't seen an episode of MTV's Jersey Shore yet, you're missing out. The show has been surrounded by controversy and has consequently claimed a spot on our guilty pleasure watch list. What better to do on Thursday night than watch a bunch of fist-pumping Jersey guidos?

Like every other MTV "reality" tv show, Jersey Shore could apparently be scripted. Do we care? No. It's still hilarious! On the bright side, we discovered the video below, making fun of the possibility of a scripted "reality" tv show. It makes the whole "situation" even more funny! The terrible British accents are too much to handle. Check out the video featuring The Situation, Snooki and Pauly D:

Add To Cart: Gold Watch

Gold watches have landed on our style radar in the past couple months and we're loving the trend. Silver watches have been 'in' for a long time now and also the majority of what's even available these days. However, there's been a slow and silent rise of gold again and we're really into what we see. Michael Kors is at the forefront, with a whole collection of goldtone watches. The timepiece above is great classic shape and mild gold color. The key with the new look is big and chunky: keep the bracelet loose and don't be afraid to go for a bigger face.

Juicy Couture has also caught on to the demand for gold. The watch below has an interchangeable bezel, which is a pretty cool feature for an indecisive mood. You can go for the bling or opt for a more understated look.

Both watches and more available at Bloomingdales.

Do You Have The Code?

We keep seeing this commercial played on tv and it never seems to lose its sex appeal. The Armani Code fragrance is definitely the winner this holiday season for the "most alluring fragrance, without having smelled it". Anja Rubik looks super fierce and the back of her dress is beyond sexy. We're still trying to figure out how those pin- thin straps work... Check out the commercial below:

Rihanna Bares All For GQ

Rihanna is bearing some skin for GQ this coming January. She looks fierce and in control. In the cover story, she discusses her new album Rated R, but of course the interview turns into more details about being assaulted by Chris Brown. Here's a small clip of the interview:
In the record business, domestic violence isn't just a tragedy; it's an image crisis. So now Team Rihanna had to decide how to "handle it." Their plan was this: She'd talk about it for the release of the album. She'd do Diane and Glamour and announce that she wanted to help young women who'd been in her position. Even if that meant addressing what really happened that ugly night last February, when she and Chris Brown left a pre-Grammy party, gorgeous, smiling, and posing, got into his car, and she later emerged bloody, bruised, and bitten.

Add To Cart: Sequin Blazer

[Tibi Sequin Blazer, Available at Saks Fifth Avenue, $358]

With holiday festivities around the corner, we've been thinking about what to wear to all the parties! It's a cheerful time and sequin can help you add that magic, holiday sparkle to your look. Now that certainly doesn't mean digging out that Vegas costume in the back of your closet. What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.

Done right, sequin is taking on a whole new darker look this year and we like what we see. Tibi has it bang-on with this black sequin blazer. It has a bit of length too, giving it that much more of a chic appeal.

Getting Excited For 'Nine'

Kate Hudson's number in the upcoming movie 'Nine' looks phenomenal! The tune is upbeat and catchy and Kate sounds amazing singing it. We do find it kind of funny how she's singing about guidos though, in lieu of the premiering of MTV's Jersey Shore last week.

The cinematography in the trailer clip featuring the number totally captures the action and energy. This is one movie we will definitely be seeing. Oh and let's not forget the all-star cast alongside Hudson, of Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz, Judi Dench, Sophia Loren, Marion Cotillard, Fergie and Daniel Day-Lewis. The musical movie hits theatres Christmas Day, December 25th. See and hear the Kate Hudson trailer below:

Let the force be with... HOLD UP, WHAT?

What in the name of fashion do we have here?! If you haven't been alerted of the latest sneaker collaboration by Adidas, then you're in for a treat. What may have been a seemingly great marketing plan appears to have missed the boat upon execution. Depicted above is the Yoda sneaker, in a collaboration between Adidas and Star Wars. Even the force couldn't save this one.

Really, who in their right mind thought crossing a moccasin with a mid-top sneaker was a good idea? Yoda would likely not approve of the lack of wisdom that went into this "creation". To see the results of the rest of the Star Wars cast footwear, click here.

Last but not least, where are Chewbacca's shoes? That's the only character who had the potential to reach the realm of Tom Ford. His version below:

Our Take On Tavi

Harper's Bazaar January issue - Photo Credit: Peter Lindbergh
Tavi Gevinson - Photo via Style Rookie

Once again, Harper’s Bazaar proves its flair for capturing cultural phenomena, with their forward-looking, cutting-edge approach. As reported by WWD, the January issue of Bazaar includes a column by Tavi Gevinson, the charming 13-year old fashion blogger behind Style Rookie.

The magazine’s decision to provide a platform for the precocious fashionista demonstrates not only the editor’s inspiration to spot Tavi’s gift, but also their understanding of blogger relations and publishing in the age of Web 2.0.

Innovation is always followed by
debates. Here at Socialites Anonymous, we think that Tavi is quite a character—eloquent, fascinating and delightful to read—expressing her musings in a mature tone, yet maintaining that childlike sensibility. Her column in Bazaar makes a relevant contribution, yet it doesn’t claim to be an in-depth, expert analysis – it reflects her playful, experimental approach.

Quirky, curious and idiosyncratic, Tavi unleashes her creative potential through writing and reporting on fashion trends. She is smart and articulate, but the recent media discourse on this issue sensationalizes what is essentially an extracurricular activity. What made a difference is her savvy attitude and the access to new media tools, which have allowed her to share her passion, get feedback and experiment with creative ideas.

While her observations and writing are on-point, she maintains her childlike mannerisms, daring and carefree, as seen in her
video reporting for Rodarte. No need for critics to jump at the opportunity of throwing words like ‘exploitation’ or ‘messed up.’ What we are getting out of a 13-year old’s opinion is not in the literal fashion advice sense and it is certainly not meant to tell you “what you are supposed to be buying” as it is not a matter of consumerism here – she is genuinely engaging in, playing with and learning about fashion. We need to be open minded and avoid making stereotypical predictions. What we are gaining is an understanding of the changing publishing landscape, as well as of the shift in cultural notions of childhood, youth, developmental patterns and societal roles, partly as a result of the participatory effects of Web 2.0.

Speaking of Web 2.0 and publishing models, check out Tavi's thoughts on the role of blogs and fashion magazines.

We truly agree with Jezebel on this one:
“Gevinson sounds like nothing more or less than an uncommonly smart 13-year-old. Because that's what being 13 kind of is: you're young enough that having too much free time is still a problem — hence the ability to devote extraordinary levels of concentration to extracurricular obsessions — but old enough to be developing in curiosity and understanding of the grown-up world.

Saying that Tavi Gevinson couldn't possibly be authoring her own work because of her age just underlines our society's innate prejudice against adolescents. Why should our expectations be set so low? And, perhaps, it shows just how willing we are to forget our earlier selves.

Perhaps this backlash is coming from people who remember how they were at 13, too — and recognize that they weren't at Tavi Gevinson's level of proficiency. Not by a long shot.”

Add To Cart: Sweatshirts

Distressed everything has been hot this season and that definitely includes the revival of acid wash. Lately, we've been really feeling crewneck sweatshirts for men too and this acid wash style from Topshop meets both the trend and the obsession. With the right outfit, it's actually quite possible to take this at home loungewear piece and make it pretty chic. One way to rock the crewneck sweatshirt is with a pair of rolled up distressed jeans and a pair of oxfords (no socks of course). When it gets cold, substitute for boots!

Spin It: Anya Marina

Everyone know's T.I.'s version of "Whatever You Like", but what you may or may not have heard is Anya Marina's cover of the originally hip-hip tune. Anya's version is slow and soothing, but just as catchy. Check it out above!

Taylor On T

Taylor Swift's T Magazine shoot is incredible! We are completely obsessed. The princess of country music looks like she was made for high fashion. She looks especially chic in the green Jil Sander dress and Givenchy shoes. Love it! Craziest of all is that The New York Times was able to get Tay-Tay to straighten her signature curly locks! The new do does look very artistic and mature though and we quite like it.

"Walk, Walk Fashion Baby..."

"... work it make that ***** go crazy." Lady Gaga's songs are stuck in our heads and she's not going anywhere anytime soon. In fact, she's coming to a newsstand near you!

More January 2010 magazine covers are coming out and it's looking like a hot winter! Penelope Cruz looks ultra fierce on Interview and Lady Gaga and Britney Spears are covering two editions of Elle's January issue. Brit-Brit's kids look so cute too! We'll be buying these glossy's for sure. Oh and for the record, we're leaning towards the Gaga version of the Elle issue. Just saying.

Harper's Starts The New Year With Kate

While it's only just December, fashion has moved on to the new year and Harper's Bazaar is starting 2010 with Kate Hudson on their January cover. In the accompanying story, she talks about pregnancy, engagement and break up rumors, heartbreak and why her and Chris got divorced. Sounds juicy to us!

On why heartbreak is worth the risk: "I'd rather hang out with a person who's done everything than who's done nothing. It would suck to die and not have experienced my life, really. I mean, I think you should keep your eyes open. Blinders are fun for a second, but they have to come off eventually. And I believe it's important to get to know people, to really get to know them."

On pregnancy, engagement and break up rumors: "I'm not pregnant," she says. "I can't go two months without being pregnant, engaged, or breaking up because I'm too needy, which is always the one they love. I'm not needy. You kind of have to laugh it off, but it can kind of screw up other things around it."

On why she doesn't talk about her relationships: "I have a child, and there are people involved, and it's unfair to talk about somebody else, especially when you're not in that place yet to be discussing those things. If I was sitting here with a belly out to here, I'd be talking about what the relationship is and how important that is in my life right now."

We don't really understand the lonely, lost bride concept going on in the photo above, but Kate looks hot in that Burberry trench and boots at Katz's Deli. For the rest of the cover story and to see more fabulous fashion, click here.

Styled by Rachel Zoe. Photos by Peter Lindbergh. Issue hits newsstands December 15th.
