Add To Cart: Prep

While this fall has been all about the studs, leather and badass cool, we've been feeling a little preppy at the same time. After all, plaid is another big trend this fall. So what better places to turn to for some prep than Ralph Lauren and J. Crew?

The plaid shirtdress below, by Rugby Ralph Lauren is a quintessential fall piece, playing on the plaid trend and also adding a feminine ruffle. Belting it at the waist, as shown in the picture helps to break up the outfit to give you some shape and proportion.

[Plaid shirtdress from Rugby Ralph Lauren, $128]

On those chillier days, you might throw a simple wool blazer over your plaid, adding some contrast to the pattern. Of course, a wool blazer is also warmer than its silk or cotton varieties, making it a functional choice for the season.

[Wool flannel schoolboy blazer from J. Crew, $188]

Try pairing this preppy look with a pair of tights and then rock some ankle boots for a more edgy take on prep style. To top it all off, grab a pumpkin spice latte at Starbucks. Fall is wonderful!

Diesel Fuels The Party

If you've ever been to a Diesel party, you'll know that they know how to throw a rager. If you haven't been, now is your chance! The Italian denim brand is hosting a party next Tuesday, October 27th, apparently in a secret location, with a secret guest DJ and an open bar. In true Diesel style, all you need to get in is a bracelet.

How to get this bracelet? Visit their Union Square store sometime in the next week and ask for the Baron. Once you get the bracelet, call the phone number on it and you'll be given the exact time and location.

If it's anything like the last one we went to, you won't want to miss it. Go to the Union Square store asap!

Marisa Miller's On Top

Victoria's Secret has announced that Marisa Miller will be this year's angel to wear the million dollar bra in their annual fashion show. The diamond encrusted bra, designed by Damiani is actually worth $3 million. $3 million! Looks like Marisa is the new "it" girl at the lingerie mogul.

Marisa described the diamond bra to People magazine,

“It is an enormous honor to wear the Fantasy bra,” says Marisa. “It’s one of the main features in the Fashion Show every year and I’m so excited to walk the runway in it.”

“The diamonds are in a harlequin pattern and contain white, champagne and cognac colored diamonds. There is also a 16-carat heart shaped champagne diamond pendant dangling in the middle. It is surprisingly comfortable,” she says, “because the Damiani diamonds are embroidered onto the VS Very Sexy Convertible bra — which is actually one of my favorites.”
To see the multi-million dollar diamond bra in action, tune in to CBS on Tuesday, December 1st at 10PM. This is one fashion show you don't want to miss! Joining Marisa will be the usual line up of: Alessandra Ambrosio, Miranda Kerr and Doutzen Kroes, with a special appearance by the Black Eyed Peas!

Fashion Forward: Gucci Cruise

Hello, amazing. If you've picked up a November issue of any fashion magazine yet, you'll have noticed the beauty that is Gucci's cruise collection ad campaign. Cruise collection ads seem to be Gucci's forté, consistently coming out with incredibly vivid scenes of a luxurious vacation lifestyle. The Italian fashion house sure knows how to sell luxury, sexy, wet and with a flawless tan.

Supermodel Natasha Poly anchors the campaign of course, which was shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott.

Add To Cart: Ankle Boots

If you're thinking of adding a new pair of shoes to your wardrobe, you may want to consider ankle boots. They're looking super hot this season and work seamlessly with the punk-inspired trend. Black leather is edgy of course, but also look for straps, studs and hardware.

Any of the following options would look great with distressed jeans, leggings with shorts over top or if you're more adventurous, a pair of parachute/harem pants.

Aldo - $140

Topshop - $190

DKNY - $198

Spin It: This Is It

Last night at midnight, Sony released Michael Jackson's single "This Is It", to get us all psyched for the movie, which comes out October 28th. It seems a little weird to be listening to a new song, sung by someone who's just recently passed, but MJ is still a legend. Take a listen below:

Tina Fey Adds Funny To Fashion

Tina Fey is covering the November issue of Harper's! That smirk she's got on the newsstand cover is providing us with comic relief already! Not the most fashion forward spread, but the interview sounds pretty entertaining. Gotta love a frank response...

On Botox: "You can point any kind of laser at my face, but I don't think Botox is for me. I think it is bad," she says. People with Botox "look like their faces are full of candles -- a shiny, shiny face. Festive. A holiday candle."

On her trademark specs: "I don't wear them very much in real life because I need them to see only far away," she says. "And I don't wear them when I am dressed up, because then I would look like Tootsie."

On why her 30 Rock alter-ego Liz Lemon would be BFF with Sex & the City's Carrie Bradshaw: "Liz has little to no style and little to no sex drive," she says. "Carrie would be very encouraging of Lemon and help her have more confidence."

On her day-to-day schedule: "Work, come home, play, kid bounce, work again, go to bed." Fey goes on to say she often writes 30 Rock on the way to the studio and is so overwhelmed that "sometimes I'll be telling my husband [composer Jeff Richmond], 'I think I'm cracking up.'"

Spin It: 3

Britney Spears released her new single "3" last Tuesday and it's already claimed the #2 spot on the iTunes chart! The tune is super catchy, as per usual with Brit Brit. The single will be part of the popstar's greatest hits album, The Singles Collection, out on November 24th, which celebrates her 10 years in the business, since releasing "Baby One More Time".

Interesting cover art though. It's looking a little retro and wait, is that a pseudo-leotard she's wearing? With pumps? I think "Single Ladies" just started playing somewhere faintly in my head... Nonetheless, it's obviously going to be a hit, so start loving:

Oh and yes, it seems she's singing about a threesome.

Give Your Fall Wardrobe The Boot

Howdy y'all! La Fashionista from StyleCynics here. The fabulous team here at Socialites Anonymous has been kind enough to allow me some space on their site to talk to you about a very serious subject: your fall wardrobe. No, don't click out of here. You really need to hear this. The first step toward making a recovery is admitting there's a problem. So do you have a problem? The better question is, do you have any western boots to wear this year? If not, then yes, you have a problem, because western and cowboy-inspired boots are all the rage this season. Hayden Panettiere knows it. Even Jessica Simpson knows it. Ok, she may have just been wearing them because she was dating a Cowboy and thought it was mandatory or something. If you don't have any western boots, don't panic! I'm here to help. I've scoured the land—ok, the Internet—to find some gorgeous examples of boots for you to add to your closet. So sit back and enjoy the ride, pardner. And I promise, that's the last of the cowboy talk.

[At left: Jessica Simpson, at right: Hayden Panettiere]

If you're going to add boots to your wardrobe, especially western boots, the first company you should look to is Frye Boots. They get it right just about every time. True, they do have one pair in their fall collection called Daisy Duke, which is just passé at this point, but the rest of the western-inspired boots in the collection rock the trend. There are a couple of models I like in particular.

The Bethany is definitely a western-looking boot, but it also has a little bit of a pirate thing going on with the fold-over cuff that buckles in the back. I know they're women's boots, but I can totally see Captain Jack Sparrow doing his swashbuckling thing in them. Pirate attire has always been a little effeminate, don't you think? All the ruffles, buckles, and feathers? What was that about? Anyway, the Bethany is handcrafted from soft, supple leather, has a 3.5-inch stacked heel, and a rubber sole. Check out the tiny stud detail along the side of the heel. They're pull-on boots, as western boots usually are, so there's no zipper to mar the smooth leather landscape. Wear them with skinny jeans, tucked in of course to show off the cuff.

Also from Frye is the Faith, which can't be taken for anything but a western boot. The foot of the boot is made from python, which gives it a really interesting pattern. Not to mention, it serves as a warning to any snakes you may encounter while wearing the boots that they'd just better back off! Now, I've never seen a blue snake, but the Faith boot is a gorgeous blue with light tan trim. The designs on the front and sides are Frye's trademark double F, but they look like birds in flight to me. They're leather-lined, have a stained and stacked wood heel, comfy memory insoles, and Goodyear welt construction. Oh yeah, these boots are built to last. And the coolest thing about them? They're part of Frye's Jenifer Estess Collection to benefit the fight against ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. So you can look fabulous while doing something good for others. What more motivation do you need?

Now, if you want a western boot that really bucks (sorry, I know I said no more cowboy talk, but I couldn't help myself) tradition, take a look at the designs offered by Lucchese. They've taken western inspiration and pumped it up with spectacular colors you wouldn't expect to see on a cowboy. On a stylish cowgirl, though? Definitely. If you read my blog with any regularity, you know of my love for—ok, maybe obsession with—the color orange. A recent convert, I just can't get enough of it. And now that fall is almost here, it's all the more relevant. So when I saw the Lucchese C2251 boot, it was love at first sight. The color is mandarin, which sounds as yummy as it is pretty. They're also made from python (Not so tough now, are ya snakes?!), with a traditional western-style sole and short, stacked heel. I wish Lucchese would come up with better names for their boots, but I can forgive them since they look so hot.

If the mandarin is a little bright for you, or you just want something a little more feminine, try the Lucchese C2078, accented in pink, also a favorite color of mine. Yeah, it's cliché and girly; so what? You gonna make something of it? I didn't think so. Not after you saw what happened to those snakes, right? Well, these boots may look girly, but they're made from hornback caiman crocodile. They're also definitely western, but the pattern stitched onto the shaft in three shades of pink and a light gray mean you don't necessarily have to wear them with jeans. Throw them on with a flouncy skirt or dress and go two-steppin'. The heel is covered with a darker gray panel, and the stacked heel and sole are black. These boots kick ass, possibly literally.

Maybe you don't like tall boots. Maybe you don't want to deal with the whole tucked in or not jeans dilemma. Or maybe you just like fringe. In that case, you'll want to take a look at the Mango Western ankle boot. It's light tan, a good neutral to go with almost anything, and is made from one hundred percent suede, a fall must-have. The top edge around the ankle is fringed, and has little loops to make it easy to pull the boot on. Two buckles adorn the vamp, but they're just for decoration. This boot also has tiny stud detailing, not just along the heel, but over the toe as well. The boot is finished off with a light wood stacked heel, and thin rubber textured sole. Wear these boots with a skirt to show off a little more leg.

[Mango Western ankle boot]

By now, you should have a good idea of how to westernize your wardrobe this fall. Just remember, like all fashion, even if they go out, they'll come back eventually. It's always better to spend a little more on quality items that will last so you're never out of style, no matter what the trend. And if you live in Texas, well, you can darn well wear western boots whenever you want, right?

My thanks to the Socialites Anonymous team for having me as a guest!
